Transportation Secretary Warns NY Over Improperly Issued CDLs

An FMCSA audit found that more than half of the state’s non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses were issued to illegal aliens

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned the state of New York that federal funding may be withheld after a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration audit found that over half of the commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) issued to non-domiciled drivers were improperly issued to illegal aliens. State officials acknowledged that their system automatically issues 8-year expirations for these CDLs regardless of the residency status of foreign drivers.

“When more than half of the licenses reviewed were issued illegally, it isn’t just a mistake — it is a dereliction of duty by state leadership,” Secretary Duffy said. “Governor Hochul must immediately revoke these illegally issued licenses. If they refuse to follow the law, we will withhold federal highway funding.”

The transportation secretary gave the state 30 days to come into compliance with federal regulations or his department will withhold $73 million in federal funding. He stated, “The safety of the American people comes first.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Secretary Duffy to be prudent in his efforts to ensure states comply with federal regulations regarding the issuance of CDLs.
  • For FMCSA Administrator Barrs to be led by God as he oversees audits of states’ licensing practices.
  • For state officials to issue licenses according to federal laws and regulations.
